I was listening to a radio program this morning, where a woman admitted that her husband was teasing her so she bit him. She BIT him. Hard, not playfully. Tell me, if he had hit her back, which of them would go to jail? If he bit her first and she hit him back, which of them would go to jail?
Ideally neither men nor women would engage in violence. But in our current legal system, only men are judged and punished for it – both on a legal and on a societal (cultural) level.
Indeed, there is a culture of spousal violence, as feminists suggest. But that culture is one of female-on-male violence. Male offenders are imprisoned, punished, and treated as pariah’s by society. Female offenders are let off the hook and have their status remain untarnished.

When I treated my ex wife poorly she was a good wife; when I started being a better husband she started shitting on me; I treat women like objects and am neck deep in ass. Perhaps that wouldn’t apply in your case, however you are one out of uncountable others where it does work
