LaRubia, I’m a lawyer – which means if I worked at your firm I’d be your superior and you’d work for me. So let’s say you wanted to get with me and I rebuffed your advances by telling you I don’t date the help because their economic status is beneath me. Wouldn’t I come across as being an elitist asshole?
You don’t judge whether someone is an equal or not by the size of their wallet. My income is in the top 5% of all residents in the United States. Yet I do not consider the other 95% to somehow be beneath me and less than my equal just because of their lesser incomes. My fiance’ is a math teacher who makes a fraction of my salary, yet she holds two masters degrees. I consider her my intellectual superior in many ways because she’s a human caclulator and I suck at math. Do you see where I’m going with this?
